The Manhasset PAL kicks off the 2001 intramural lacrosse season this Saturday, March 3rd at the Munsey Park elementary school field. Each of the age groups will meet for 1 1/2 hours at the following times:

* Juniors (grades 3 and 4) 9 to 10:30 a.m.

* Seniors (grades 5 and 6) 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

* Jr. High (grades 7 and 8) 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Please have full equipment for this practice. The boys will be evaluated for assignment to their respective intramural teams. Please be on time, and remember, boys must play with their own grade. There are no exceptions. For those interested in the Clinic Program for boys in 1st and 2nd grade, that program will be starting in a few weeks. Watch the Manhasset Press for an announcement. We're all looking forward to another great Lax season.

A very busy schedule of activities and dates to remember as the baseball and softball season begin. The Manhasset School District is busy readying two new fields for play this spring. One will be at Munsey Park School and another at Shelter Rock School. They will be ready in the next three weeks.

The final Winter Clinic runs this Sunday, March 4, at Manhasset High School. For players K-third grades, the clinic runs from 2 to 3:30 p.m. For grades 4 - 8, the clinic runs from 3:30 to 5 p.m. All boys and girls are invited and it is free. Please bring sneakers and a glove.

Rick Wolff, WFAN youth sports specialist, will address all coaches and parents of children participating in baseball, basketball, soccer and lacrosse in Manhasset. This free presentation, sponsored by Manhasset PAL, St. Mary's CYO and Manhasset Soccer Club will be on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 8 p.m. at St. Mary's Immaculata Hall auditorium. Monsignor John McCann of St. Mary's will also address the coaches and parents. All are welcome to attend.

On Sunday, March 4, the Manhasset Baseball and Manhasset Softball League will sponsor a free coaches' clinic at Manhasset High School gym from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. This clinic, for managers and coaches only, will stress drills for hitting, pitching, infield and outfield play, techniques for teaching fundamentals for children, coach/player communication, rules, and many aspects of the game that many volunteer coaches "used to know." All coaches for the MBL and MSL are urged to attend, regardless of division level.

The Manhasset Softball League for girls will begin player evaluations in two sessions: the third and fourth grade girls will begin on Sunday, March 10, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Wiest Hall. The 5th and 6th graders will have evaluations on Sunday, March 4, at 6:30 to 8 p.m., also at Wiest Hall. Each player should wear sneakers and bring her glove. Evaluations will not be necessary for the 7th/8th grade division, or the younger softball divisions. All girls above Tee-ball will be called for practice by mid-March. Tee-ball players will start in April.

The boys Manhasset Baseball League will start games on April 6. More information will be available in Manhasset Press next week.

New players for baseball or softball can now register to play at Nancy Morris State Farm Insurance on Bayview Avenue, as well as at Phil's Manhasset Sport Shop. Please hurry since we need a final count for uniforms, number of managers, and equipment bags. The registration price will increase to $100 after March 4. For both baseball and softball, grades K through 9 are encouraged to join. And no lacrosse game conflicts, ever!
