Mildred A. Vaccaro, a Manhasset resident for more than 50 years, died on Feb. 17, 2001. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 68 years, Charles S. Vaccaro. She is survived by her son, Charles; grandchildren Diane and William; great-grandson Robert. Visitation was on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Fairchild Funeral Chapel, Manhasset. Entombment was at Nassau Knolls Cemetery in Port Washington.
Mary Jane Surgala of Garden City, formerly of Manhasset, died on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, after a brief illness.
Born April 12, 1939, the daughter of John and Catherine "Ella" Surgala, she graduated from Notre Dame School in New York City and received a bachelor's degree from Newton College of the Sacred Heart. She was a computer systems engineer, retiring from the IBM Corporation.
Mary Jane was active in many civic and charitable organizations, including the Manhasset Community Fund, the Manhasset Public Library and St. Mary's Parish Council.
She is survived by her godchild, Samantha Lincoln Gezymalla, friend Mary Lincoln and many other beloved friends.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mary's R. C. Church in Manhasset on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 11:15 a.m. followed by interment at Holy Rood Cemetery.
