From what we hear, Manhasset will be taking to the road next weekend. There will be a major exodus to Florida and other warm destinations. For hardier souls, the ski season is still in full tilt so many will be hitting the slopes. Still, there will be a great number of us staying right here at home and that's far from all bad. Here are a few suggestions for those families with children home from school who will be staying in town.
The ice skating at Christopher Morley is here in our own back yard and it's a wonderful rink. On the other hand, there's the Town of North Hempstead Physical Activities Center at Michael J. Tully Park, where the pool is first class and there are all sorts of exercise equipment available. Right down Northern Boulevard in Roslyn Harbor is the Nassau County Museum of Fine Art, where the current exhibit is Napoleon. This is a marvelous exhibit where you'll see the Emperor Napoleon's uniforms, furniture and other artifacts as well as a world-class collection of paintings. On the same campus is the Tee Ridder Museum of Miniatures--a collection of doll houses with incredible tiny furniture, decorative items and genuine works of art. Even closer to home is the library. With half the residents out of town you can probably find the video that's always been out when you wanted it or that book you haven't had time to read during school. We haven't checked out the movies but the theaters usually feature some decent children's fare during school vacations. There's plenty to do here at home and you won't be stuck for three hours at LaGuardia. Enjoy the week.
