Manhasset High School played a series of four varsity games under the lights. The games were football, boys and girls soccer and girls field hockey. The Manhasset Booster Club sponsored the event.

Town of North Hempstead Supervisor May Newburger presented her budget for the town for the fiscal year 2001.

The Village of Flower Hill offered the Flu Immunization Program to senior citizens. The budget reduced the total tax levy in the four major operating funds by 1.4 percent and held the line on general town taxes.

County Executive Thomas Gulotta met with Anton newspaper editors, including the Manhasset Press, to discuss his administration. He defended his no tax increase position, saying "Other counties have income taxes and other counties have raised taxes; Nassau County has no income taxes and we have not raised taxes." He blamed the county legislature for the county's fiscal problems.

The Manhasset Park District announced that it would hold the line on taxes in 2001 but it raised the daily commuter parking fee from $2 a day to $3 a day.

Nassau County began its reassessment in the Village of Hempstead. All property tax reassessment will be completed and take effect in January 2003.

The Village of Flower Hill adopted a revised building code.

Manhasset Schools held the annual Homecoming Parade on Oct. 21.

The Democratic majority of the Nassau County Legislature adopted a $2.2 billion budget that they said would return fiscal stability to the county through the elimination of government waste, consolidation of departments and a 15.4 tax increase. County Executive Gulotta called the budget "unacceptable" and vetoed it.

Manhasset Public Library invited the public to two public meetings to discuss proposals for a new or rebuilt library. Four options were discussed: to repair and expand the existing building while condemning the Adam Art property for parking; to rebuild a library on the present site and condemn the Adam Art property for parking; to build a new library on the Adam Art site; to build a new library on the site of the former Village Bath Club.

Manhasset voters returned incumbents Congressman Peter King, State Senator Michael Balboni and Thomas DiNapoli to office.

The Manhasset High School Theatre Company presented Oliver! as the fall season's play.

Stephen McGann and Barnard Rolston announced their candidacies for the open seat on the Manhasset Park District Board.

The Manhasset Clergy Association held an ecumenical Thanksgiving Service at the bandstand in Mary Jane Davies Park.

Former Manhasset Park District Commissioner and Manhasset businessman Charles Jenkins died at 61.

After much negotiation, Nassau officials agreed on a budget for 2001 and a four-year plan, which was mandated by the Nassau Interim Finance Authority (NIFA). The budget calls for a nine- percent tax increase and averted a takeover by a NIFA control board.

Manhasset Park District and the Chamber of Commerce sponsored the annual tree lighting marking the beginning of the holiday season.

Bernard Rolston edged Stephen McGann out for a seat on the Manhasset Park District by a vote of 323 to 316. Brian Jennings was re-elected to the position of commissioner of the Manhasset-Lakeville Water and Fire Districts.

The Manhasset Boys Soccer team won the Long Island Regional Championship for the first time in the school's history.
