Manhasset: The Year 2000 in Review
The Year 2000 in Manhasset began on New Year's Day as town officials were sworn in. Supervisor May Newburger, Council Members Doreen Banks, Tony D'Urso, Angelo Ferrara and Jim O'Connor were sworn in as incumbents as was Receiver of Taxes Ann Galante. The new face was that of Michelle Schimel, newly elected Town Clerk.

Village Revenue Sharing Gets Final Okay
Following up on an initiative proposed by the Democratic majority at a press conference this past October, members of the Nassau County Legislators voted unanimously on Dec. 11, to appropriate $250,000 from sales tax revenue in the 2001 budget to be shared among the county's 64 villages.

Honors Continue for Boys Soccer Team
The Manhasset High School boys varsity soccer team enjoyed a season of unprecedented success in the long history of soccer at Manhasset. The season began on Sept. 9 with a second place finish in the 11th Annual Booster Club Boys Soccer Tournament. After winning its first league contest, the team lost its next two league games to New Hyde Park and Seaford. From that point on, the soccer team, under the leadership of Coach Vinnie LoBianco, won eight straight games and tied its last league game to win the Conference BII Championship.

St. Mary's Hockey Keeps Rolling
As of Dec. 14, St. Mary's Varsity Hockey Team has a 12-1 record, having outscored the opposition 107-25. Leading the pack are Dimitri Soukanov and Ruslan Khasanchin who have played brilliantly on offense. Veteran assisant captain Brian Dobler leads the defense which features one junior, three sophomorrs and one freshman. Big wins have come over Portledge 7-2; LaSalle Academy 6-3; Wyoming Prep 6-4; and Hudson Catholic 6-3.
