Library Board Hears From Residents
The Manhasset Public Library's Board of Trustees held two public meetings last week, one on Wednesday evening and one on Saturday morning, to present plans for a new library and to receive public input. Both meetings were well attended in the library's community room and both elicited lively responses.
Brian Jennings to Run for Re-election
Brian P. Jennings, who has served for 33 years as Water and Fire Commissioner of the Manhasset-Lakeville Water and Fire District, has announced that he is seeking re-election as commissioner on Tuesday, Dec. 12.
Blue Lightning Finishes 7-1-1
On a cold day at the top of the plateau known as Harbor Links, the Blue Lightning squared off with Sough Merrick in a battle for league champion. A stiff breeze developed at game time, but the girls were warmed by the fire of competition as they battled the opponents to a 2-2 tie.
MHS Girls Win Cross Country Honors
The Manhasset girls varsity cross-country season drew to a close this past Saturday at the Nassau County Championships at Bethpage State Park. The girls finished second at the Conference IV Championships held the week before. Cara Cronin and Claudia Tenaglia were awarded All-Division honors for the 2000 season. Pauline Shepanczyk placed 9th overall and achieved All-Conference honors. Cara was prevented from repeating her All-Conference selection by a late season injury. Emily Vlachos, a sophomore, showed a steady improvement throughout the season.
