Third graders - often they are the most fascinating of all the classifications in Manhasset PAL lacrosse. Sure, they are the youngest - and presumably the least skilled - but they are also the most teachable, the most enthusiastic, the least jaded and, simply put, the most fun. Above all, they provide the adults and parents with their first opportunities for projection. Which kids will develop into high school stand-outs and perhaps even college stars? Does a particular class have enough depth to continue the great tradition of Manhasset lacrosse success? Which kids will opt for Catholic or private schools instead of matriculating at the local high school? In a community such as Manhasset, where the ancient Native American sport is often approached with almost religious fervor and respect, these are serious issues - even nine years prior to high school graduation. The 12-13-year-old girls' softball season provided many wonderful moments. Despite Mother Nature's effort to wash the season out, the Orioles finished as regular season champs with a 5-1-1 record (and five rain outs!) The Orioles' record earned them top seed in the league tournament, but didn't provide enough experience to overcome the first-round opponent and the season came to an abrupt end. FULL STORY
