Manhasset-Lakeville Water and Fire Districts 2000 Schedule of Meetings
The Board of Commissioners of the Manhasset-Lakeville Water and Fire Districts announced the revised 2000 schedule of meetings. The board will meet each Tuesday and Thursday at 9 a.m. to discuss the weekly business of the district, with the following exceptions:
Wildlife Returning to North Shore
The osprey, that great black and white fish hawk, has returned to our peninsula, and in greater numbers than ever before. The work that we have done has produced a spring of reproductive vigor, but it is cautious optimism that must continue to be our perspective.
Third Grade Boys: Both Clubs Loaded With Future Talent
Third graders - often they are the most fascinating of all the classifications in Manhasset PAL lacrosse. Sure, they are the youngest - and presumably the least skilled - but they are also the most teachable, the most enthusiastic, the least jaded and, simply put, the most fun. Above all, they provide the adults and parents with their first opportunities for projection. Which kids will develop into high school stand-outs and perhaps even college stars? Does a particular class have enough depth to continue the great tradition of Manhasset lacrosse success? Which kids will opt for Catholic or private schools instead of matriculating at the local high school? In a community such as Manhasset, where the ancient Native American sport is often approached with almost religious fervor and respect, these are serious issues - even nine years prior to high school graduation. So it begins for the Class of 2009.
Orioles Finish Successful Campaign
The 12-13-year-old girls' softball season provided many wonderful moments. Despite Mother Nature's effort to wash the season out, the Orioles finished as regular season champs with a 5-1-1 record (and five rain outs!) The Orioles' record earned them top seed in the league tournament, but didn't provide enough experience to overcome the first-round opponent and the season came to an abrupt end.
