What one knows is, in youth, of little moment; they know enough who know how to learn.
Education of Henry Adams
Congratulations to the Class of 2000. We wish all the best to the graduates of Manhasset High School, St. Mary's High School and to the Manhasset residents who will be graduating from private schools and to all our college graduates. There is something momentous in being the first graduating class of the century. If the above quotation from Henry Adams seems peculiar after all the time our students have spent during the last four years acquiring information, we can only say that it resonates with us. In time, dates and formulas will be forgotten but principles will remain. The ability to understand the question and to find the solution is a major part of what the successful student learns, especially at the high school level. In the current bestseller, Who Moved My Cheese? the author quotes novelist A. J. Cronin, who wrote: "Life is no straight and easy corridor along which we travel free and unhampered, but a maze of passages through which we must seek our way, lost and confused, now and again checked in a blind alley. But always, if we have faith, a door will open for us, not perhaps the one that we ourselves would ever have thought of but one that will prove good for us." So we wish all of our graduates good luck and bid our seniors farewell. Keep us posted on your future doings. We know we'll be proud of you.
