Candidates Seek Election to the Nassau County Legislature
The Republicans and Democrats have made their choices for County legislator for the 11th District: Linda Green for the Republicans and Craig Johnson for the Democrats. The special election, which will be held on May 2, seeks to fill the position held by Barbara Johnson until her death last month. The Democratic candidate for the office is Ms. Johnson's son.

Zwirn Makes It a Three-Way Race
Former Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Ben Zwirn made the run for the 11th Legislative District special election a three-way race with his nomination by the Green Party. The seat became empty with the death of Barbara Johnson, a Democrat from Port Washington whose death leaves the Nassau County Legislature with nine Democrats and nine Republicans.

St. Mary's Wins State Hockey Championship
The St. Mary's Gaels Varsity Hockey team made it¬five New York State championships in the last six years¬with a convincing 10-3 victory over Frontier High School (Buffalo) at Iceworks, Syosset, this past weekend. The state championship was played before a crowd of 250. Atmosphere was added to the rink with so many fans from school in attendance. In sweeping all five games, the Gaels improved their tournament record to 24-0-1. The team finished the season 35-4-2. They dedicated the tournament to Brother Kenneth, who was too ill to attend but was remembered by the players through their "Bro. Kenneth Patches" sewn onto their jerseys.

On the Bay
Twelve boats completed seven races and a crew race on Sunday, April 2. The skies were overcast with threats of thunderstorms that never materialized. A southerly wind of 8-10 knots provided the sailors a nice tune-up for the upcoming IC Nationals (April 15-16). Competition was excellent, as the second, third and fourth place finishers were only one point apart.
