After defeating the Nassau County High School All-Star Team 2-1 in the first game and 6-2 in the second, St. Mary's went on to face two formidable opponents in Millbrook Prep from upstate and Wyoming Prep from Pennsylvania.

In the Millbrook game, St. Mary's came up with a 3-2 victory. With Millbrook leading 2-0 going into the third period, the Gaels dug deep and freshman Mike Collette scored two goals, including the game winner. Billy Murray scored the other goal and also had an assist. Tim Donohue stopped 22 of the 24 shots he faced.

The 6-3 victory over Wyoming Prep was St. Mary's 14th consecutive win. Senior John Giardino scored two goals and had two assists to pace the Gaels to victory. Andy Gartman had a goal and three assists. Brian Dobbler, Dinos Stamoulis and John Keller each scored a goal. Goalie Mike Midea stopped 24 out of the 27 shots he faced.
