The Manhasset High School Varsity boys cross country team has been recognized by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) for academic excellence. The Scholar/Athlete Award program was initiated seven years ago by NYSPHSAA, and, based upon a team's cumulative grade point average, team champions are selected for each sport from high schools throughout New York State.
Our team achieved one of the highest cumulative grade point averages among cross country teams across New York State. The cross country team enjoyed another fine season, winning its conference championship with an undefeated league record of 6-0. Overall, the team achieved a record of 12-2. These achievements are a credit to our athletes who have to balance the demands of rigorous academic schedules with the long hours of practice and competition required to successfully compete at a championship level.
Coach Don Scott entered his team in the scholar-athlete competition, and the top nine members of his team had a cumulative average of 97.250. Congratulations to Coach Scott and the following boys cross country team scholar/athletes:
