Incumbent Patricia Roberts defeated challenger Joseph Giaimo 472 to 248 in the election for Manhasset Park District commissioner on Dec. 14 and incumbent Bonnie-Lynne Gould defeated Bernard Rolston by a vote of 764 to 346. In Manhasset where special district candidates are usually unopposed, this year was unusual. Donald H. Miller, a longtime resident of Munsey Park, died on Dec. 16, 1999 at the age of 78. He died at St. Francis Hospital from various complications after a lengthy hospitalization and illness. He is survived by his wife, Ruth and children Donald Miller, Joan Sakmann, Douglas Miller, Betty Hickey and Robert Miller. He had previously been married to Helen, who pre-deceased him in 1989. At the Nassau County Boys Soccer Coaches Awards Dinner, which was held on Dec. 7, it was announced that the conference BII Sportsmanship Award was won by Manhasset High School. This prestigious award was in recognition of the positive displays of sportsmanship exhibited by the Manhasset coaches, players, and spectators during the recently completed fall season. The promotion of good sportsmanship is a priority in the Athletic Department, and we are proud of this significant accomplishment and extends congratulations to coach Vinnie LoBianco, his players, and our fans.
