The Manhasset football program (7/8, J.V., Varsity) finished with a combined record of 18 wins and four defeats for a .818 winning percentage. The four losses came at the hands of the four Nassau Conference IV playoff teams.

Coach Bill Cherry attributes the success of the program to the work ethic of the young men who play, the dedication of the coaching staff, and the support received from Dr. Apgar, the administration, the Booster Club, the MAAC, the PAL, and last, but certainly not least, the parents of our athletes.

In the 90's, Manhasset has been ranked in the top four of Nassau County Conference IV every year, making six title appearances and two trips to the Long Island championship game.

This year's season was highlighted by a night game, won by the varsity 27-0, the 7/8 grade team defeating Garden City and going undefeated, and the JV team defeating a much bigger and stronger Locust Valley team to go undefeated.

To lend credence to the strength of the program, two Manhasset players, Chris Mucciolo and Londre Blocker, were awarded All-County honors. Four players, Chris Mucciolo, Londre Blocker, Dae Hwan Kim and Adam Thoelen, were named All-Conference. Three players, Londre Blocker, Chris Mucciolo and Dae Hwan Kim were named Academic All-conference. Two playhers were nominated for special awards. Dae Hwan Kim is a candidate for the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete Award and Chris Mucciolo is a candidate for the Roy Kessenich Scholar-Athlete Award. Chris and Londre also represented Manhasset in the Senior Bowl played on Thanksgiving morning at Hofstra University.

The coaches and players would like to thank everyone involved with the program for all they have done. They also thank Mrs. Perna and the cheerleaders for their support during the past season.

MHS Football Team Excels in the Classroom

The Manhasset High School football team not only works hard on the football field, but in the classroom as well. This year's varsity carried 26 members. Of those 26, 24 have a G.P.A. of 3.0 or better. With the time commitment demanded by the sport, and the amount of time a student must put into his studies to achieve a high level, it is truly a testament to the time management skills these athletes have developed over the years.

The team is being nominated for New York State scholar-athlete status, awarded to teams which maintain a 90 or above average during the season.

Manhasset also had three academic all-conference players in Londre Blocker, Chris Mucciolo and Dae Hwan Kim. Chris and Dae Hwan are also up for individual scholar-athlete honors.'

It is a credit to these young men, their parents and their teachers to be able to have the skills and the discipline to manage a highly competitive course load and excel on the athletic field as well. It is worthy of note that most of these young men are two and three sport athletes.
