At the recent public hearings held by the Flower Hill Board of Trustees regarding the new recodification of the Village Code, many residents had the opportunity to voice their comments, pro and con, after which the trustees did the same.
Each of the trustees agreed that the proposed draft wasn't perfect and in varying degrees of importance, thought that changes should be made as soon as practicable. But the majority view was that the alternative choice of doing nothing, "throwing the baby out with the bath water," was worse than passing the new code, flawed as it was in part. It was surely a show of legitimate concern on the board's part when as each trustee in turn voted yes, they said that some revisions were due, after noting the comments that the residents had brought forward at the meeting.
If there was any doubt that this was not to be a "railroad job" by the board, Mayor Damascus followed up the five yes votes with his comment that he thought there were many serious flaws in the new code and, even though his vote wouldn't count (because there was already a majority of yes votes given) he was voting no. He then vowed to have the entire board review those areas of the code with the Village Council at the earliest possible time so as to correct those sections which need revisions. Local government is still alive and kicking - and concerned - in Flower Hill.
