Vera H. Maggia, a Croton resident, formerly of Manhasset, died Wednesday, Nov 3, 1999 at Sky View Health Care Center. She was 84. She was born in Hoboken, NJ, on June 27, 1915, the daughter of Henry and Rose Formosa Herm. A homemaker, she was married to Oscar A. Maggia at St. Edmund's Church in Brooklyn on Sept. 2, 1940. He survives and lives in Croton, NY.

Mrs. Maggia was a member of the Manhasset Community Club and also was a parishioner of Holy Name of Mary Church in Croton.

The funeral Mass was Monday, Nov. 9 at Holy Name of Mary Church. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery in Brooklyn. Memorial donations may be made to the Croton Caring Committee or the charity of choice.

The funeral arrangements were under the direction of Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, Croton-Hudson, NY.

H. Nevin Gehman, age 79, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL died Nov. 4, 1999 at St. Luke's Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was a graduate of Exeter Academy and Princeton University, where he was a first-team, All-American on the university's National Championship lacrosse team in 1942. He served in the United States Naval Reserve during World War II, and was a commanding officer of two sub chasers, one in the Pacific and one in the Atlantic. He retired as a lieutenant senior grade.

Mr. Gehman and his wife, Mary Beth, moved to St. Augustine, FL from Manhasset in 1985 when he retired from a career in marketing, advertising, and fund-raising in New York City. He had been a senior vice-president on a unit of the Interpublic Group of Companies, which was at that time the world's largest advertising and marketing firm.

He was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in St. Augustine, where he had been a vestry member, a lay-leader, and a chalice server. In 1995 he headed a fund-raising committee to complete major repairs to the church. In 1996 he chaired Trinity Church's 175th anniversary celebration committee, and in 1997 and 1998 he was in charge of the fund-raising committee to restore the church's Aeolian-Skinner organ.

Mr. Gehman was a trustee of the St. Augustine Historical Society, and had been that organization's representative to the Presidio Commission that planned the reconstruction of the Santo Domingo Redoudt and the completion of the Cubo Defense Wall. As a director of the St. Francis Soup Kitchen and Shelter, he was its volunteer fund-raiser for eight years, and subsequently for the migrant farm worker support program in Hastings. He was given a "12 Who Care" award by Television Channel 12 in Jacksonville for his work for the St. Francis House.

Mary Elizabeth Murrell Husson Gehman, his wife of 54 years, preceded him in death. Mr. Gehman is survived by his wife, Sally Bet Cunningham Nevius Gehman of Ponte Vedra Beach and Washington, DC, whom he recently married; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Murrell Weissinger of St. Augustine; two sons, Henry Moragne Gehman of Berkeley, CA and Richard Hart Gehman of Gainesville, FL; one stepdaughter, Kristina Nevius; one grandson; and one stepgrandson.

Arrangements were handled by Craig Funeral Home, St. Augustine, FL.
