Donald T. Troy, former American Airlines captain and major, USMCR, Ret., died on Oct. 5, 1999 at his home in Plandome after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

A graduate of St. John's University, he joined the Naval Flight Program; after earning his wings, he flew fighter aircraft for the Marine Corps. Upon completion of active duty, Donald remained in the Marine reserves for 10 years, flying out of Floyd Bennett Field (N.A.S. Brooklyn). Until his mandatory retirement as a senior captain, he flew for American Airlines for 34 years.

Donald was a resident of Montauk for many years and his wife maintains a residence there as well as in Plandome. He was a devoted bicyclist, enjoying extended trips in New England and California, as well as regular local trips around Montauk and participating in races in New York City. He was a dedicated golfer and photographer as well. He loved Montauk, fishing and boating.

Donald was married to Romayne Kovach Troy, who survives him. He also leaves sons: Michael and his wife, Alison, of Greenwich, CT, and Matthew and his wife, Kim, of Greenwich, CT; daughters Theresa and her husband, William Fasel, of Haddonfield, NJ, and Kathleen and her fiance, Brian Fitzgerald of Manhattan; Elysa Kovach Stark and her son, Julian, of Boca Raton, FL, and Christopher Kovach of Boston, MA. Donald also leaves grandchildren Dylan, Christopher and Alexandra Troy of Greenwich and Samantha and Madeline Fasel of Haddonfield. He is also survived by his sister, Geraldine Troy Ryan, and her husband, John Ryan of Westford, MA.

Funeral arrangements were made by Fairchild's in Manhasset. A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated by Msgr. John J. Skelly at St. Mary's R. C. Church in Manhasset on Thursday, Oct. 7 with interment following in Fort Hill Cemetery. A memorial Mass was celebrated at St. Therese's Church in Montauk on Oct. 9.

Mary Brayton (Durfee) Brown, 90, of Lakeside Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999 at the Clough Center. She was born in Fall River, MA, on March 4, 1909 the daughter of Randall N. and Abby (Brayton) Durfee. She graduated from Ethel Walker School in CT and from Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, PA. Mrs. Brown had lived in New London since 1972 previously residing in Plandome and Manhasset. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, was one of the founders of Lake Sunapee Region Hospice, volunteered at the New London Hospital, and was an alumnae director of Bryn Mawr College. While in NY she was very active in Plandome and Manhasset. She enjoyed giving of her time as a volunteer. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles B. Brown, in 1987 and her daughter, Caroline Brown, in 1988. She was also predeceased by brothers and sister, Randall Nelson Durfee, Jr., Bradford Chaloner Durfee and Caroline Durfee. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, C. Bennett Brown, Jr. and Ursula of Middlebury, VT; two granddaughters, Deborah Brayton Brown of Charlotte, VT and Abby Durfee Brown of Fairfax, CA; two step granddaughters, Barbara Taurinsky of Manchester, NH and Nancy Jacobs of Redwood Shores, CA; one great granddaughter, Hilary of Charlotte, VT; nieces and cousins. A funeral service was held on Friday, Oct. 15, 1999 at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Gould Road, New London, NH with the Rev. Dr. Frederick Stecker IV, rector, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery, New London at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurse Assoc. and Hospice, P.O. Box 2209, New London, NH 03257 or to Bryn Mawr College, Bryn Mawr, PA. 19010.
