On Monday evening, Oct. 11, the Manhasset Varsity Football Team played its first-ever night game at Manhasset High School under portable lights rented by the Manhasset High School Booster Club. The game, originally scheduled for Oct. 9 but postponed due to aerial spraying, drew an estimated 2,000 spectators. Attendance exceeded all expectations and heightened the excitement of football under the lights. It was truly a community event and was enjoyed by all age groups.
The Booster Club would like to extend its sincere thanks to the many, too numerous to mention individually, who made the night such an overwhelming success. Parents and Booster Club members, the high school administration, coaches and staff, especially the custodial and grounds crew, all worked diligently to reschedule the game at night and to get the lights stored and then back into position following the unanticipated postponement. Special thanks are in order to Friends Academy for accommodating our need to immediately reschedule the game to a different night. Most of all thanks to the players and the coaches of both Manhasset High School and Friends Academy for a memorable evening of spirited competition and good sportsmanship and to the fans of both teams for filling the stands to capacity.
All who attended would, no doubt, agree that this is an event which should become a tradition. The Manhasset Booster Club deeply appreciates the continued support of the Manhasset community.
