  • NEWS: GOP Challenges Town Board Incumbents

    The present town board in North Hempstead consists of Democratic Supervisor May Newburger, Democratic Town Councilwoman Doreen Banks, Democratic Town Councilman Tony D'Urso and Republican Town Councilmen Anthony Ferrara and James O'Connor. The Republican members were elected in 1997 so it is the two Democratic incumbents whose seats are up for election. Ms. Banks and Mr. D'Urso are challenged by Republicans Bob Lazaro and Warren Brinker. FULL STORY

  • NEWS: Parking Sign Sparks Locust Place Ire

    Locust Place, the street that runs from Bayview Avenue on the south to Colonial Parkway on the north, parallel to Plandome Road, is gaily decorated for Halloween at this time of year. Witches and ghosts share places with pumpkins and wheat sheaves but last week neighbors were stunned to see a new sign appear on the east side of the street. There are three houses on this side of Locust Place. The southernmost is adjacent to the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department Bayview Avenue station and the northernmost adjacent to the parking behind the Plandome Road stores.The sign read: "Coming soon : Shopper Parking : Courtesy of Plandome Road Commission." The residents of the block, some of whom own their houses and some of whom are renters, were taken completely by surprise. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: First Night Football Game a Victory (28-0) and a Sellout

    Although delayed by mosquito spraying, Manhasset's first night football game was a sellout with over 2000 attendees. Senior Chris Mucciolo scored three touchdowns all on passes from Dae Hwon with one interception in the end zone. Sean Denihan had a 25-yard interception for a touchdown; Mike Connors kicked an extra point and Londre Blocker had a two-point conversion pass to Sean Denihan. FULL STORY
