I have waited until now to compose this letter as I do not wish to have anyone associate my opinions with the Chamber of Commerce. I am speaking solely for myself and my husband, Charlie. We all know that Manhasset is a marvelous town in which to live, but we also know that we desperately need a new supermarket and a new library.

I have heard all the discussions about traffic and spot zoning for the supermarket, but I feel a modern and efficient supermarket in a town with one of the highest incomes by zip code is a must. We have well-educated, intelligent people who work very hard and have earned the best there is to offer. Because the Cullen family lives locally, I feel they have our best interest in mind. They have tried to be sensitive to the Brinkerhoff Lane owners and they have moved the market to the center of the lot. It is unfortunate that the nay-sayers are always the most vocal as, I feel, the silent majority in Manhasset seem to favor the King Kullen proposal. If we are not careful, a far worse use of this property will come to pass without a need for a variance.

A new, up-to-date library is another must for Manhasset. Adequate parking, a large community room and computer access, to add to the regular library needs, are a must for the 21st century.

Come on, Manhasset, send in your letters to this paper to tell the councilmen how you feel. It is hard to stick your neck out and express yourself in public, but it is also going to be difficult to accept the consequences if you remain silent.

We all want what is best for Manhasset. This town will die without a supermarket and library that are the finest there is.
