This is the first letter I have ever written to any paper, anywhere. However I feel compelled to express my views on the subject of the proposed King Kullen grocery store at Filene's Shopping Center.
I feel I am part of the silent majority on this issue. I base this feeling on the many people I have discussed the issue with and who feel the same as I. Unfortunately we have--through laziness or busy-ness--kept our views to ourselves. That must stop.
I feel very strongly that the King Kullen store should be allowed to build on this site. We in Manhasset need a large grocery store to handle our needs. What better one than the King Kullen/Kimco chain. I know from experience that whatever they build will be in the best interest of the community. They built a new store in a shopping center in Bridgehampton, LI, where we also have a home, about seven years ago which has proven to be the kind of grocery store we would like to have here. It is kept spotlessly clean, well stocked and well priced with accommodating and polite personnel and outstanding on-site management. They have been an asset to the community in every way possible. I am sure they would do the same here.
This is our last chance to have a quality grocery store in our community or any grocery store, for that matter, after Waldbaum's closes. Let's make it happen. They will do what's right, I'm sure. Please let's hear from more of the silent majority. Let's be heard so the Planning Board in all their wisdom will do what's right for all.
