(Ed. note: The following letter was sent to Carl Heyel and is printed here at the author's request.)

I have recently been reading your increasingly screeching letters to the editor in the Manhasset Press¬usually chuckling at your incessant crusade against the legions of the left who¬in your mind¬are constantly on the verge of destroying the country. Until now, I have resisted the urge to respond, but your Aug. 5 frothing-at-the-mouth regarding Hillary Clinton's senate candidacy simply went too far. Let me make it simple for you.

A large part of your objection to Mrs. Clinton running for the senate from New York apparently is based on your perception that it would be a "charade" and "an assault upon common sense" for her to purchase a house and establish legal residence in the Empire State. You also apparently charged the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy with this sort of offense when he was elected to the senate from New York in 1964. Well¬either you are ignorant of history¬or, as many rabid dog ideologues do, simply are choosing to ignore it. In either case, it surely appears to me that your entire point receives a fatal torpedo when it is revealed that one of your presumptive heroes, former Senator James B. Buckley (Con.-NY) was a lifelong resident of Connecticut when he decided to run for elective office in 1970. In fact, I don't think he even went to the trouble of buying a house to establish residence. My recollection is that he just declared a relative's guest room as his true abode. Funny that your lengthy diatribe against the Clintons was totally silent on the subject of Mr. Buckley. C'mon, Mr. Heyel, if you're going to expose the entire community to your extreme views, at least be extremely careful that you support them with accurate and complete information.
