Rich du Moulin with his EXP 37 named Lora Ann again participated in the Stamford Yacht Club's Race to the Vineyard. Along with Rich were crew of many years: John Browning, Steve Moore, Chris Reyling, Peter Rugg and also two of his children: Lora, 17 years old and Ed, 15.

Your reporter called Steve Moore who brought over the Race Detail and answered a few questions.

Lora Ann won not only her PHRF Class G division of nine boats but best "in fleet." She beat the next boat in her class by two hours and six minutes. Fifty-three boats were scored. Trophy winners were the Cotton Blossom Performance Trophy (best corrected time over second/third place) and the Dotty Lorenzer Trophy (best corrected time in PHRF Spinnaker Class.)

Steve explained the unusual condition of an easterly breeze for the whole race. Lora Ann and a few other boats chose the option of going south of Block Island on the way to the Buzzards Tower.

More about the Knickerbocker Cup: Jean Shope (member of MBYC and honorary member of KYC) again served with the Race Committee and described Smooth as Silk (owned by Howard Pion of KYC) as a wonderful committee boat. She described her responsibilities as intense and interesting.

Being a spectator boat (Lady Del) on Aug. 29 with a skipper (Ed du Moulin) who knew where spectators should be to enjoy a good view was a real treat. Besides the maneuvering during the races it was fun to see the boats lined up for team shifts which were taken care of by Kevin Dailey and Uwe Kordts (both of MBYC) in their rigid-bottom inflatable rubber boats, Acquaduck and Fever. There were many boats to gaze at ranging from a Rhodes 19 to a 60-foot LADD, the production of which had been under Robert Lager's direction.
