Carol Tully Monahan, a resident of Rehoboth Beach, DE, died at home on Sept. 11 after a long illness. She was 68 years old. A longtime resident of Manhasset and Washington, DC, she was preceded in death by her son, John Paul Monahan III. She is survived by her husband, John Paul Monahan Jr., six children, Barbara Monahan of Rehoboth Beach, Clare Myers of Darien, CT, Christopher Monahan of Darien, CT, Kathryn Haas of Long Island City, NY, Henry Monahan of Santa Fe, NM, and Sally Monahan of Chapel Hill, NC; a sister, Marian Conroy of Charlotte, NC; 13 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a graduate of the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich, CT, and Trinity College in Washington, DC and worked as a fundraiser in Virginia, Washington, DC, and Rehoboth Beach. Donations in her memory can be made to the Tunnel Cancer Clinic at Beebe Hospital in Lewes, DE.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Fairchild Funeral Chapel in Manhasset. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, at St. Mary's R. C. Church in Manhasset with interment following at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury.

Muriel Florence Neville, a resident of Port Washington since 1951, died at North Shore University Hospital on Sept. 8, 1999. Mrs. Neville, the widow of the late John F. Neville, had been living in Hadley House in Port Washington. Prior to that, she lived with her family.

Born in Manhattan in 1911, Muriel Neville grew up in Stonyford, NY and Weehawken, NJ and later Manhattan. She attended the Wadley School in Manhattan and Drew Seminary in Carmel, NY.

Mrs. Neville was very committed to local affairs, being a member of the Music Study Club of Port Washington, the League of Women Voters, a trustee of the Port Washington Public Library and had been active with the schools while her children were attending. She was a parishioner of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild for many years. Mrs. Neville was also a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock and had been among the founders of that church when it was located on Bayview Ave. and the minister was Gerald Weary. Mrs. Neville was a great friend of the theater, the NY Philharmonic and all the arts. She was a Democrat of FDR, Adlai Stevenson and George McGovern Stripes and proud of it.

Mr. Neville is survived by her three loving children, Cooper of Glen Cove, James of Port Washington, Victoria Dawson of Norfolk, VA and six grandchildren.

A memorial service shall be held on Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. at St. Stephen's Church in Port Washington. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Rector's Discretionary Fund, St. Stephen's Church, would be appreciated.
