At its regularly scheduled meeting on Aug. 4, the Manhasset Public Schools Board of Education set the tax levy for the 1999-2000 school year.

The total blended tax rate for all four property classifications is $42.740 per $100 of assessed valuation. This represents a 3.87 percent increase over the blended tax rate for the 1998-99 school year.

Based on figures provided by the Nassau County Assessor's Office, the specific property class tax rates per $100 of assessed valuation will be as follows:

Class 1 - Single Family Homes $43.875 2.61 percent increase
Class 2 - Apartments and Condominiums $31.438 2.48 percent increase
Class 3 - Special Franchise (Utilities) $27.615 10.61 percent increase
Class 4 - Commercial $43.374 8.68 percent increase

Manhasset voters approved the 1999-2000 school budget of $49,498,523 in May by a two-to-one margin.
