Helen Murphy, nee Nolan, 87, of West Point Road in East Hampton, beloved wife of Justin J. Murphy for 63 years, died peacefully on Aug. 11, 1999, at home with her family by her side.

She was born in Hoboken, NJ, on June 8, 1912, daughter of the late Timothy and Kathryn (Penny) Nolan, and had resided in East Hampton for 11 months, having formerly lived in Manhasset for 42 years.

She was a graduate of St. Elizabeth College in Morristown, NJ. Helen was a member of St. Patrick's Church in East Hampton and formerly a member of St. Mary's parish in Manhasset where she was a past president of St. Mary's Rosary Society and a long-time volunteer at St. Francis Hospital.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Justin J. Murphy Jr., Colonel USAF retired, and his wife, Dayle, of Palmdale, CA; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Ted Toombs of Glen Head, Rosemary and Bob Kilpatrick of East Hampton, Eileen and George Connelly of Washington, DC; a brother, Richard Nolan of Fort Lee, NJ; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by a brother, William J. Nolan.

Mrs. Murphy's funeral service was held on Saturday, Aug. 14, with a funeral liturgy at St. Patrick's Church in East Hampton and burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery in East Hampton. Those who wish may send memorial contributions in Helen's memory to the College of St. Elizabeth, 2 Convent Road, Morristown, NJ 07960-6989.

A concelebrated Mass will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Church in Manhasset.
