Town of North Hempstead Supervisor May W. Newburger and Town Board members have announced the availability of a new marine pump-out service available to boaters in North Hempstead waters. The service provides boaters, docked or in the bay, with an environmentally sound method to dispose of waste from their boat.

The new pump-out service is free-or-charge, easy to use, safe, clean, and environmentally friendly. "The addition of this boat to our Public Safely Department provides a more accessible mobile pump-out service to our residents in the boating community," said Supervisor May W. Newburger. The current pump-out station located at the town dock will remain in service seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The town pump-out boat was obtained through a grant from the Clean Vessel Act Assistance Program. The pump-out service is available Wednesday through Sunday. Boaters can contact the North Hempstead Bay Constable via VHF radio by calling "North Hempstead Marine 9" on channel 9 or 71 during hours of operation.

The addition of the new pump-out boat service was made possible by the North Hempstead Department of Public Safety, in conjunction with the Town's Waterfront Advisory Board and Dr. Joel Ziev, special advisor to the Town of North Hempstead on waterfront issues. "The new pump-out boat will provide boaters in North Hempstead with a service that will make an inconvenient chore a bit more manageable and in the long run, safer for our waterways and environment," said Dr. Joel Ziev.

For more information about the new pump-out service, please contact the Town Dock at 767-4622.
