Town Board Approves North Shore Expansion
The town board room was crowded on Tuesday, July 27, despite the fact that the re-scheduled hearing on the Kimco-King Kullen application for a change of zone had been postponed. Many of those in attendance had not received word of the postponement but there were many others present for different hearings. At the opening of the meeting Supervisor May Newburger made a statement, saying: "Concerning the Kimco hearing, yesterday the town board received a revised report from the Nassau Planning Commission. It included changes which require discussion and thought. Therefore it would be inappropriate to consider this application tonight. I move to continue at a later date." The board voted 5-0 in favor of the continuation at another, unspecified date.

Manhasset Landmarks on Exhibit at Port Library
The Town of North Hempstead Historic Landmarks Preservation Commission is currently exhibiting the town's 12 designated landmarks and landmark districts at the Port Washington Public Library Art Gallery. Included in the exhibit are more than 70 photos, farming implements from the 1700s books and photos belonging to historic personages from the designated sites. A centerpiece of the exhibit is a large scale model of the Onderdonk House which was built in 1836 in Manhasset. The exhibit will be in place through the end of August.

Chamber Members and Friends Enjoy Golf Outing
The Manhasset Chamber of Commerce held its second golf outing at the North Hempstead Harbor Links on Monday, July 26. Despite the scorching hot day, the outing was a financial and social success. The day included greens fees, cart, lunch, dinner and gifts. A successful raffle completed the day. The chamber is planning to use some of the funds netted from the day for Welcome to Manhasset signs.

Manhasset Lax Player on World Champion Team
Michael Ferrari, a 1998 graduate of Manhasset High School and a member of the 1999 USA. Under-19 Men's World Lacrosse Team, the reigning world champions, brought home the gold again from the "Land Down Under," Adelaide, Australia.
