A few days ago your reporter received a lovely picture postcard of the Royal Burnham Yacht Club (England). This year it was the turn of the Manhasset Bay One Design Sailors to cross the Atlantic for competition with the Royal Burnham One Design Sailors. The card, from Curt and Fran Champlin, announced that the MBOD's did not win. She mentioned partying in a "home from 1500s" and golfing. Twenty-two people went from here. Ten boats were raced.

Then it was learned that Linda Miller Pender and her husband Simon were on the team of the Royal Northern and Clyde Y.C. (Rhu Scotland) that had won against Seawanhaka Corinthian YC (Oyster Bay). With their four children Linda and Simon are visiting her well-known family here. Sonars were raced.

Another report was received:

The Optimist Invitational Green Regatta (for beginner Opti sailors) was held at MBYC on July 16. Twenty-eight entrants, divided into two fleets, were from the following: PWYC, MBYC, Douglaston YC, Sea Cliff YC and Cold Spring Harbor YC.

A most informative skippers meeting, given by pro John Barry and US Sailing Senior Judge Peter Lorson, was much appreciated by the skippers.

Postponement was necessary due to lack of winds, but in the usual Manhasset Bay tradition, the southerly (10-15 knots) filled in and the races were started. Two races were completed for the day.

Awards: Orange Fleet: 1-Tedd Himler MBYC, 2-Caroline Read MBYC, 3-Jodi Layton SCYC.

White Fleet: 1-Katie Di Santi SCYC, 2-Angus Page CSHYC, 3-Lindsey Brackin MBYC.

In addition, an award for sportsmanship was given to Nick Silbersack of MBYC. Thanks are due to the Dingy Shop (Jim Kohler) and to West Marine for donating raffle prizes.

Optimist Invitational Regatta: MBYC, July 23.

From: R. Marshall Stross of NSYC:

Dan Simon of Plandome was declared winner of the June 26 one-design race for the Rosenberg trophy at NSYC. A protest by Bill Brakman of MBYC was disallowed. Bob Kirtland of MBYC placed second. Third place was a tie between Alan Helman of NSYC and Bill Brakman.
