Obituaries

Vivian Canton (nee Potenzano) died peacefully on June 17, 1999. Predeceased in 1995 by her husband Ralph Canton. Most recently of Port Washington, Mrs. Canton was a resident of Flower Hill, Manhasset for 35 years. She took particular pleasure in decorating her home and gardens. In her early years, she was involved in the Flower Hill Women's Club, the Flower Hill Garden Club, Vincent Smith School and St. Mary's Catholic School. Mrs. Canton was a dedicated parishioner and generous supporter of St. Mary's Catholic Church for nearly half a century. Throughout her life she was ardently interested in politics, finance, literature and in her later years, genealogy, intent on preserving her rich Italian heritage for her children and grandchild. She was a full-time and dedicated parent, the proud, beloved mother of Donald Canton of Pembroke, ME and Elaine Canton Pacent. Also survived by three loving sisters, two loving sisters-by-marriage and numerous cherished nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass will be held for family at St. Mary's Church followed by interment at Locust Valley Cemetery. Donations in her memory can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Wilhelmina (Billie) Bockus died on June 19, 1999. She was a member of the Manhasset Community Club, Plandome Women's Club and the AARP Chapter 1234. She was also a volunteer with the Child Guidance Corner Shop and in the past with the St. Francis Guild, Human Resources School and Meals-on-Wheels. She is survived by her daughter Joyce Hein of Plandome and her son Robert Buskard of Manhasset along with five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Community Reformed Church on July 24 at 2 p.m.
