Geoffrey Greene, 53, of Floral Park, died on June 3, 1999. Born in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, his family moved to Manhasset when he was four, and graduated from Manhasset High School. He played the piano professionally later giving it up to become a self-employed computer consultant. He still played for pleasure. He married Lorraine Todorow in 1972. They lived in Flushing, Queens and then moved to Floral Park to raise their children.
Mr. Greene served as coach and then commissioner of the Elmont American Little League. Under his leadership, the league, which is now called the Elmont North Little League, computerized player drafts, recruited capable leaders and never turned away a child who wanted to play.
As chairman of the Citizens Advisory Committee for Computers and Technology for the Sewanhaka High School District, Mr. Greene offered his computer expertise to local students. He was recognized several times for his community service. The Town of Hempstead declared Oct. 4, 1987 "Geoff Greene Day." The Nassau County Legislature recognized his dedication with a resolution in 1992 and the Sewanhaka Central High School District superintendent awarded him the Circle of Excellence Award in 1988 for his dedication to students.
Mr. Greene is survived by his wife, Lorraine; his children, David, Hallie and Jennifer; his parents, Mina and Arthur Greene of Manhasset; his brothers, Ronald Greene of Greenvale and John Greene of Manhasset; and his sister, Mimi Greene of Mashpee, MA.
Arrangements were made by the Elmont Funeral Home. Mr. Greene was cremated.
