As readers of our sports pages will notice, the Police Athletic League lacrosse teams have wound up their seasons. Most have had winning seasons. all have learned a great deal about the game, about sportsmanship and about teamwork. For this they owe a great debt of thanks to their coaches, their parents and all the adults who have devoted their precious free time to helping these young athletes. At the Manhasset Press , we especially want to include the men and women who have reported on the games. They have done outstanding jobs and, since most have requested that we not give them bylines, they receive no credit for it. We just wish we could get people to report on high school sports with as much intelligence, efficiency and good will. At the high school we have only the committed track coach, Don Scott, to keep our readers current with MHS sports. The sheer numbers of the young athletes in the PAL program means that a great many adults are needed to coach their games and fill the other necessary roles to make a sports league work. Prime among these people is Bill Miller who has guided his own children through the world of lacrosse and is now seeing his grandchildren on the field. It takes dedication to do it at all and it takes extraordinary generosity to persevere over the years. Now on Saturday we will see the culmination of the re-birth of baseball in Manhasset. Once again the sport has a dedicated adult at the helm, this time it is Jim Judge who almost single-handedly got Manhasset's baseball off the ground. Hats off to these adults who make Manhasset a great place to live for our children.
