In what may be the last ordination of his tenure as bishop of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, Bishop John R. McGann will ordain one man to the priesthood on Saturday, June 12, at St. Agnes Cathedral.

John J. McCartney of Manhasset has completed his studies at Immaculate Conception Seminary in Huntington and will take the final step of becoming a priest at a ceremony beginning at 11 a.m.

Mr. McCartney was born in New York City to John J. McCartney, M.D. and Dorothy Fidgeon McCartney. He attended the School of the Holy Child in Old Westbury, St. Mary's Elementary School, Manhasset, and is a graduate of Chaminade High School. He holds a bachelor of science in political science from New York University, a juris doctor degree from Fordham University Law School and an M.A. and M. Div. from Immaculate Conception Seminary.

After five years of practicing law, Mr. McCartney entered Immaculate Conception Seminary in 1994. He spent his pastoral year--a year required of all seminarians in which they serve in a parish to learn first hand the life of a priest--at Our Lady of Grace Church in West Babylon. Upon ordination he will be serving his first assignment at St. John the Evangelist Church in Center Moriches.

Father McCartney will celebrate his first Mass at St. Mary's Church in Manhasset on Sunday, June 13, and a Mass of Thanksgiving at Our Lady of Grace Church, West Babylon on Sunday, June 20.

Also celebrating his first Mass at St. Mary's in Manhasset on Sunday, June 13, will be the Rev. Adrian C. H. Pleus of Plandome who was ordained to the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Atlanta, GA, on Saturday, June 5. Father Pleus will celebrate his Mass at 10:15 a.m. and Msgr. John J. Wiest, St. Mary's pastor emeritus, will con-celebrate.

Adrian, the younger son of Julie and Werner Pleus, who have lived in Plandome since they were married, prepared for the priesthood at St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, PA, receiving an M. Div. He received a master's degree in education from the University of Georgia and his bachelor of arts from The University of the South at Sewannee, TN.

The Archbishop of Atlanta has assigned Adrian to the Church of St. Catherine in Kennesaw, GA, where he will serve as a parochial vicar, following a short visit at home.
