Coach Brugal's fifth grade lacrosse team turned the heat up and shut down Cold Spring Harbor right from the start. JT Milone's successful day on faceoffs led to constant pressure at the offensive end. Two quick goals in the first few minutes by Brian Fleishhacker with one assisted by Milone pumped up the entire team to give their best effort this year as everyone played with tremendous heart and intensity. The boys from Manhasset came to play and were further fired up by the defense led by Eric Fitzig, David Nebel, John Papa and Simon Cox. The defense completely shut down the offense of Cold Spring Harbor pounding their attackmen with long sticks and were relentless in the pursuit of ground balls and their controlled footwork. To the dismay of Cold Spring Harbor the defense was matched by the defense of the Manhasset midfielders Jonathan Brugal, Terrence Molinari, Ryan Figlia, Frankie Coughlin and JT Milone who poked, hit and pursued ground balls for four quarters. By the end of the first half Manhasset led 4-1, after JT Milone committed larceny by stealing a pass on a Cold Spring clear and took the goalie one on one. The fourth goal was "bullied" in by, former defenseman now attackman, Mark Sauvigne (whose long stick now hangs in his garage¬it's a titanium).
With Manhasset leading 4-1 in the third quarter Cold Spring Harbor scored a second goal during a transition period. Manhasset continued the pressure on a very good Cold Spring goalie with great efforts by attackmen Mike Torpe, Brian Fleishhacker, John Traynor and Kyle McGoldrick who all hustled both in front and behind the goal to keep the ball on the offensive end. Late in the fourth quarter the "Bear," Kyle McGoldrick barreled himself through the defense on the left side for nothing but net to put Manhasset up 5-2.
Manhasset was successful almost all day with their clears that were handled by Terrence Molinari and Ryan Figlia. Patrick Judge once again protected the net with success and twice came out of the net and introduced himself to Cold Spring Harbor players with the force of a freight train. On one occasion Judge left the goal and was caught up in play and Milone, on a heads up play, took the net and made a save on a hard shot on goal. Early in the first half, another "wanna be goalie," John Papa, took a save on the chest, right in front of the goal. Manhasset controlled the tempo of the game with the stick handling of Brugal, Molinari, Figlia and Coughlin. Manhasset's man down defense, on several occasions were on the field one and two minutes, as well as being down two men at once, and never gave Cold Spring a chance. Congratulations to the man down defense of Brugal, Molinari, Milone, Papa, Fitzig, Nebel and the entire team.
