"Ground balls and great defense win games," Coaches Lester Petracca and Andy Palmedo told their 6th grade travel team. Playing at home against Lynbrook last Sunday, the team heeded that advice and steamrolled over the Lynbrook squad 6-1.
Once again Manhasset got off to a quick lead when Gavin Petracca scored less than two minutes into the game. He added a second goal later in the game and Chris Finn also had a two goal game. Kevin Kitt had a goal and Tommy Kaminsky, after taking the ball from a Lynbrook attack player near the Manhasset goal, demonstrated his athletic talent by running the length of the field and scoring.
Manhasset's precision passing has grown more impressive with each game. Chris Connolly put on another clinic, with great passes and two assists. Joaquin DeRojas, Chris Monahan and Colin Grimes each added an assist. Outstanding performances from Nickie Calluzzo, Chris Filippelli and Vaughn Read sparked the team and important contributions also came from RJ Moulton, Danny Robino, Mike Sama, Dan Cotter, John Powers and James O'Hanlon.
For the sixth straight game, Manhasset's powerhouse goalie duo of Randy Palmedo and Chris Petracca stifled the other team's offense and both looked very sharp in the net. After a 6-0 start, the team faces stiff opposition next week, with two away games, including a challenge match against a team from Greenwich.
