Five members of the Johns Hopkins varsity lacrosse team are Manhasset residents. They will be coming to Long Island to play Hofstra at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 8. Pictured (l-r) are: Conor Denihan, MHS 1997; Matt O'Kelly, St. Mary's 1995; Dan Denihan, MHS 1995; Nick Murtha, MHS 1998; P.J. DiConza, MHS 1998.

The Manhasset Boys Lacrosse Team (10-2) has won a couple of big games in the last two weeks. On April 17 the team beat New Canaan, CT, in New Canaan's beautiful new turf stadium, 13-7. This was Manhasset's first win in the Battle of the Sound over a three year period. The win was a team effort with excellent goal tending by Aidan Schmidt (11 saves) and the defense--Jeff Dussich, Tim Dwyer and Daehwan Kim. The scoring was by attackman Skip Dunphy (four goals), Sean Denihan (one goal, one assist), Dan Ross (one goal, three assists) and midfielders Don Scott (three goals, three assists), Chris Mucciolo (two goals, three assists), John Calderone (one goal) and Chris Jagenburg (one goal).

On Friday, April 30, the team traveled to Cold Spring Harbor to play undefeated league opponent Cold Spring Harbor. Cold Spring Harbor had been the only team to beat top-ranked Lynbrook so Manhasset was expecting a very tough physical game. Manhasset went ahead early 3-0 and, behind an excellent defense and 21 saves (by goal-keeper Aidan Schmidt) the team won 10-3. Manhasset played its best lacrosse of the season despite missing long-pole Scott Zaremba with an injury. The scoring was by attackmen Sean Denihan, Skip Dunphy (two goals) and midfielders Don Scott (three goals), Chris Mucciolo (one goal) and John Baugher (one goal).

The team will host Wantagh, a very tough league opponent, on Saturday, May 8, at 10:30 a.m.
