  • NEWS: DiNapoli New Leader of Nassau Democrats

    At its county convention on April 15, the Nassau Democratic County Committee chose Thomas DiNapoli, member of the New York State Assembly from the 16th Assembly District, as its new chairman. Mr. DiNapoli will fill the unexpired term of Stephen J. Sabbeth whose resignation as chairman went into effect on April 16. DiNapoli, who was the odds-on favorite going into the convention, easily defeated former Oyster Bay Supervisor Louis Yevoli. Mr. Yevoli conceded before 10 p.m. In a rare show of unity for Nassau Democrats, the two embraced and DiNapoli said: "Tonight is a great night for all of us, this was never about a victory for Lou or a victory for me.   • SPORTS: Tar-Heels Wrap Up Tremendous Season

    The fourth-grade St. Mary's Tar-Heels Boys Basketball Team finished its 1998-99 season with an impressive 21-6 record. They were the CYO Mineola Gold Division Champions with a perfect 10-0 record and they made it to the "Final Four" of the Fourth-Grade Super League, comprised of all-star teams throughout Long Island and New York City.   • SPORTS: Lacrosse Update

    On Saturday, April 17, Manhasset's senior division girls lacrosse team (seventh and eighth grades) defeated Massapequa by a score of 9-4. The game was played in a stiff breeze on John Burns field in Massapequa. Kate Donoghue led all scorers with a total of three goals and one assist. Meredith Hotarek added two goals with an assist. Other goals were scored by Kate Breslin, Lyndsey Fee, Mary Galvin and Lindsay Buhr, Buhr and Fee each also added an assist. FULL STORY
