The news of the death of my friend and brother lawyer, Ken Molloy, reached me while away from Manhasset and, although not unexpected, the swiftness of his passing took me by surprise. I figure I was in denial, that this seemingly indestructible man would no longer be physically with us. My prayers and condolences go out to his family and many friends.

Ken was truly "a man for all seasons," not just for his good works known to us all, but for those many selfless quiet contributions he made of himself to help others in need. The most recent was his response to the plea for lawyers for pro bono service at St. Mary's parish, under Bishop McGann's Diocesan Voluntary Lawyers Initiative (VLI), active in more than 60 parishes on Long Island.

Ken went very public with his life-threatening illness in a joyous and courageous manner which lifted the spirits and hopes of so many of his brothers and sisters in similar life-threatening circumstances.

One of my early experiences with Ken, about 35 years ago, was his work toward establishing a free standing hospice here on Long Island. This project proceeded under the leadership of Sherry and Thornton Smith and the Unitarian Church. Although it failed, and no such like facility exists to this date, the seeds were planted for Long Island At Home Hospice which is touching the lives of so many families today.

How does one memorialize the death of a loved one? Perhaps, in Ken's memory, a free standing Kenneth Molloy Hospice here on Long Island he loved so much. Just one thought to be considered along with so many others which I'm sure his many friends will be proposing.

Shalom, Ken.

Bill.
