In the March 16 Plandome Manor village election, former trustee Carlo Manganillo received 198 votes to 108 for Deputy Mayor Thomaas O'Neill. Mayor Declan Meagher had declined to run for another term.

North Hempstead Honors Its Women
For the sixth consecutive year, the Town of North Hempstead, under the leadership of Supervisor May Newburger and the Board of Trustees, held a Women's History Breakfast at which 20 names were added to the North Hempstead Women's Roll of Honor. The breakfast was held at Clinton G. Martin Park and after opening remarks by Mrs. Newburger, well-known actress Shirley Romaine gave brief readings from some of her favorite women writers. They were a varied group, ranging from Alice Walker to Edna St. Vincent Millay to Collette (done with a charming French accent) to Marge Piercey.

Fifty Four Coaches Attend Baseball Clinic
On Sunday, March 21, 54 managers and coaches of both the Manhasset Baseball and Softball Leagues participated in a coaches clinic held at Manhasset High School. The drills and presentations were led by "Baseball and Softball Dynamics," a group of baseball and softball instructors who gave advice, demonstrated drills and techniques, distributed sample practice routines and answered various questions for the coaches and managers.
