A Levitt-built house in North Strathmore in Manhasset was my first home with my parents. Thirty years ago my wife and I moved with our four children to Plandome Manor because of the unique quality of life in these few square miles, one of the most attractive in Manhasset. I have seen many changes, most good, some not so good.
I do not like the purchase and razing of homes in harmony with our village and their replacement by monsters that don't fit the property. I do not like the destruction of trees against village ordinances. I did not like the speedy destruction without permit of the historic Nicholl's house. Above all, I do not like the candidacy of persons unfamiliar with these problems, and who have rarely if ever attended village meetings.
There are persons who have come up through the ranks in Plandome Manor Village government and represent our views. Thomas O'Neill has been deputy mayor of the village for four years and involved in zoning review. Barbara Simon, a 21-year resident and 10-year energetic activist in the village has, as a trustee, attended 43 of the 44 monthly board meetings. Daniel Weil has been chairman of the Village Planning Board for three years and has addressed parking and traffic problems. No "Johnny Come Latelys" here.
In your own enlightened self-interest vote for O'Neill, Simon and Weil on Tuesday, March 16 from noon to 9 p.m., in the Science Museum near Leeds Pond. If unable to vote in person, contact the village at 627-3702 for an absentee ballot.

P.S. I know it is much easier to stay home, BUT...!
