Manhasset High School JV Coach Vinnie LoBianco completed an undefeated 1998-1999 basketball season.

The girls achieved first place in the Freeport Tournament and received a trophy. All of the girls played with dedication and enthusiasm and displayed support of one another and good sportsmanship.

Congratulations to all!

On Sunday, March 21, the Manhasset Baseball and Manhasset Softball League will sponsor a free coaches clinic at Manhasset HS gym from 3 to 5 p.m. This clinic, for managers and coaches only, will stress drills for hitting, pitching, infield and outfield play, techniques for teaching fundamentals for children, coach/player communication, rules and many aspects of the game that many volunteer coaches "used to know," All coaches for the MBL and MSL are urged to attend, regardless of division level.

New players for baseball or softball can now register to play at Nancy Morris State Farm Insurance on Plandome Rd., as well as at Phil's Manhasset Sport Shop. Please hurry since we need a final count for uniforms, number of managers and equipment bags. There are currently 554 players registered to date. For both baseball and softball, grades K through 7 are encouraged to join. And no lacrosse game conflicts, ever!

For the MBL (baseball), the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th/7th grade leagues will have the first of two evaluation practices on Saturday, March 27. The second evaluation day will be Sunday, March 28. In case of inclement weather, these sessions will just move inside to the Manhasset HS gym. Please check next week's Manhasset Press for specific times and locations for each age group.

For the MSL (softball), the 3rd/4th, 5th/6th/7th grade leagues will have the same dates for evaluations. In case of inclement weather, these sessions will move inside to St. Mary's Immaculata Hall (girls HS). Please check next week's Manhasset Press for specific times and locations for each age group.

There are still sponsorships available for both the baseball and particularly the softball league teams. The MBL has far surpassed last year's exceptional support and the soon-to-be-built new field at Valley Park will benefit by the increased support. Thank you.

There is still room for foursomes and individuals for the April 19 fundraising golf outing at Harbor Links Golf Club. This outing will include breakfast before, and lunch after the shotgun-style outing. The day will also feature a live sports memorabilia auction with some truly rare items. Sign up for a team sponsorship or for golf today at 627-1384.

For those of you on-line inclined, the MBL/MSL will kick off its new website in early April. Players will be able to access standings, professional playing tips, schedule information, field locations, sponsor information, trivia questions, player of the week highlights, game results, 1998 recaps and email capabilities. Next year we expect to do registrations on-line!
