"Faith For a Brighter Future" is the new theme for this year's Catholic Schools Week. This theme underscores that strong Catholic identity and its importance in ensuring a brighter future for our students, our church and our country. Monsignor Thomas McDade, USCC secretary for education, said that the national committee for this campaign has made faith the centerpiece of the theme for the second year. "The faith-driven environment of our schools is the key to our success and the primary reason parents choose Catholic Schools for their children," he added.

Saint Mary's Elementary School had its own set of events to make this exceptional week complete. On Sunday, Jan. 31, Catholic Schools Week opened with a special Mass at 10:15. Following Mass was an open house at the school. On Monday was Student Appreciation Day. The students were granted a "Dress Down Day," and were given a special treat at lunch time. Tuesday was "Buddy Day." All of the older students got paired with the younger primary students to share a snack, and talk about the activities of the week. Many new friends were made that day! On Wednesday, an open house for the current parents was held, and on Thursday, an open house was held for new, prospective parents. Throughout the week, a book fair was held in the library for the students and the faculty to enjoy. Saint Mary's opened its doors to many familiar faces and numerous new friends during this time. These events were not only important to our present students and their parents, but it also offered the new friends of Saint Mary's an opportunity to see the school, and learn more about what it has to offer.
