  • NEWS: Supervisor Lauds State of the Town, Looks to the Future

    Buoyed by good economic news and looking to the future, Supervisor May W. Newburger last week said that she will propose to put before the North Hempstead Town Board, and ultimately before the voters, a Town of North Hempstead Environmental Bond Act. "If approved," Supervisor Newburger said, "this bond would give the town the necessary resources to seek matching State and Federal money in order to address critical environmental concerns--protecting our drinking water, saving our harbors and preserving our precious remaining open spaces."   • NEWS: Pat Scollard to Retire from St. Francis Hospital

    Last May when Dr. Robert Vizza retired from the helm of St. Francis Hospital a party with a nautical theme was given at the hospital in his honor. Dr. Vizza, an avid sailor, said that he was leaving the hospital in the good hands of Patrick Scollard, with whom he had sailed literal as well as virtual voyages. Now, less than a year later, Patrick J. Scollard will himself retire, effective April 30, 1999. Mr. Scollard will be 62 in April. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: St. Mary's 6th Graders Win CYO Championship

    The St. Mary's 6th grade girls' basketball team won the CYO "A" League Championship by defeating St. Rose of Massapequa by a score of 45-31 this past Sunday before a standing room only crowd at St. Mary's High School's Immaculata Hall. St. Mary's, paced by its strong team defense, outscored St. Rose's 16-4 in the second quarter, resulting in a 20-11 halftime lead. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: On the Bay

    Sunday, Feb. 7, five teams of frostbiters completed two races in little to no wind. The lack of wind gave the sailors and their crew time to enjoy some refreshment on the race committee boat and watch the beauty of snow falling on the bay. FULL STORY
