Tower Foundation Dinner Dance Nets $78,000 for Manhasset Schools
Nearly 300 members of the Manhasset community joined together on Saturday, Jan. 23 at North Hempstead Country Club in a fun-filled evening of dining and dancing to support the four Manhasset schools. When it was all over, the Tower Foundation's annual dinner dance raised $78,000, eclipsing last year's record fund raiser.

BZA Rejects Kimco Proposal
The North Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals announced on Jan. 27 that it had denied the variances requested by Manhasset Ventures/Northtown Realty Company. The developer of the shopping center would have been the Kimco Organization.This, for the present at least, puts an end to the proposal which would have brought a King Kullen supermarket to the existing Filene's Shopping Center.

On Sunday, Jan. 24, the second of four free indoor baseball and softball clinics, sponsored by the Manhasset Baseball League and the Manhasset Softball League, was held and over 140 players attended.

"Super Bowl Sunday" brought out eight teams of frostbiters who braved very cold weather and light, shifty NE wind to complete five races. Top sailors for the day: 1. Pedro Lorson and Felicity Ryan (#536), 2) Ted Toombs and Monique Gaylor (#514) and 3. Doug Morea and Jason Hill (#653). There was no crew race.
