Manhasset's varsity indoor track team won its 21st title Saturday night, Jan. 23, at Farmingdale College. The athletes outperformed 10 Conference V schools for the title: Valley Stream South, Friends Academy, Oyster Bay, North Shore, Wheatley, Malverne, Jericho, Clarke, Cold Spring Harbor and Valley Stream North. Fourteen different athletes contributed to the team victory, competing in 12 different track and field events. Scoring was : 10-8-6-4-2-1 for first through sixth place.

Some of the faces change each year but the team's success always depends on a small number of athletes who compete in many events, athletes who have special events and relay runners. Five athletes were the work horses this year, each competing in three events: Vincent Bilello, Mack Bradley, Tory Dean, Don Scott and Scott Zaremba. The five athletes scored 70 of the 113 team points.

Conference champions this year were Vincent Bilello (3200 meters and 1600 meters), Mack Bradley (300 meters and high jump), Tim Dwyer (shot-put), Tory Dean (55 meters) and 4x200 relay--Dwayne Yearwood, Scott Zaremba, Don Scott and Tory Dean.

The meet started with the 3200 meter run and Vincent Bilello (12) won with Derek Whelan (9) 5th. In the 1000 meter run, Garvey Camilien (10) was second; 55 meter dash Tory Dean (11) won; 600 meter run Scott Zaremba (10) and Don Scott (12) scored eight points; 1600 meter run Vincent Bilello (12) won and 300 meter run Mack Bradley (10) won and Tory Dean (11) scored.

The two field events, high jump and shot-put, scored a lot of points for the team victory. In the high jump Mack Bradley (10) cleared 5'4" and won with Jamiel Hendricks (9) third and Garrett Spitz (9) sixth. The shot-put saw Tim Dwyer (12) win with a personal best 42'8" in throw; Carlos Moya (10) 3rd (38') and Anwar Belt (12) sixth.

Manhasset's relay teams scored 22 points with two third place finishes and one championship. The 4x800 meters was third with Derek Whelan (9), Garvey Camilien (10), Ryan Miller (10) and Vincent Bilello (12). The 4x400 meters was also third with Scott Zaremba (10), Don Scott (12), Carlos Moya (10) and Mack Bradley (10). The 4x200 meter team won with Dwayne Yearwood (12) 25.7, Scott Zaremba (10) 25.6, Don Scott (12) 25.5, and Tory Dean (11) 25.4.

The Nassau County championship will be held February 6 at Farmingdale. Vincent Bilello, Tory Dean, Scott Zaremba, Don Scott, Tim Dwyer and Mack Bradley have qualified.
