  • NEWS: Manhasset Lights Up Its Trees

    Friday, Dec. 4, was unseasonably warm but it still felt like Christmas at the bandstand in Mary Jane Davies Park on Plandome Road in Manhasset. The Manhasset Park District once again sponsored our official tree lighting and there was a record crowd on hand. Estimates ranged from 1000 to 1500 in attendance. It was a representative crowd as the youngest and the oldest residents mingled, enjoyed the Park District's hot chocolate and donut holes and the music. The music was especially good this year, with St. Mary's orchestra, the Manhasset High School Brass Ensemble and singers from both schools contributing to everyone's enjoyment. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Magic Wins Sportsmanship Award

    On Saturday, Dec. 5, at a ceremony at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Malverne, the members of Manhasset's sixth grade girls soccer team were awarded the Marge McGorry Sportsmanship Award for their sense of fair play during the season. This award is given out each year to the team that exemplifies good sportsmanship in its age group. These young athletes played like champions both on and off the field.   • SPORTS: St. Mary's Opens CYO Basketball Season

    Led by budding superstar Jon Fountain, the St. Mary's 6th grade boys basketball team defeated Holy Family of Hicksville 36-27 on Nov. 22 at St. Mary's. Possessing a super-quick, versatile and unusually sophisticated game for a boy his age, Fountain registered 20 of St. Mary's points, scoring on a wide range of drives and short set shots. He was also generous, often looking to set up his teammates which helped Tommy Nolan net six large points and Cullen Molinari sink two important buckets. FULL STORY
