  • NEWS: Owner Demolishes Colonial Era Building

    On Monday, Nov. 2, despite pleas from environmentalists and preservationists, the new owner of the historic Nicolls house, John Ioannou, had the 17th century building demolished. A private security guard had earlier told George Treiber, a Manhasset resident, "You can't come in because there's heavy equipment on the property but in three days we'll be out of here." Although Mr. Ioannou, who bought the property from Mrs. Louise Allen Dean in a bankruptcy sale in Florida, told the court that he planned to live on the property for which he paid $1.25 million, he immediately put the property up for sale with an asking price of $3.2 million and stated that the property could be subdivided into half-acre plots.     On Sunday, Nov. 8, Saint Mary's Parish in Manhasset will install the 11th pastor of the parish community, Monsignor John J. McCann. This celebratory Mass will take place at the Church of Saint Mary on Northern Boulevard in Manhasset at 11:30. A reception will be held in Immaculata Hall following Mass. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Vincent Bilello Wins Conference Cross-Country Championship for Manhasset

    Vincent Bilello (12), an All-County athlete last year, won the Nassau Conference III Cross-Country Championship Saturday at Bethpage Park's 5000 meter course. Bilello's winning time was 16 min. 50.2 seconds. He took over the race at the 1 1/2 mile mark and won by 10 seconds. Arthur Rudolph (11) finished second on the team with Nick Giamio (12) 3rd, Matt Bognacki (10) 4th, Cliff Ryan (10) 5th, Kyle Crennan (9) 6th and Derek Shriftman (9) 7th. The team scored a third palce overall finish in the Conference in a field of 18 schools. FULL STORY
