The fourth grade girls CYO soccer team played another outstanding game Saturday afternoon beating Holy Spirit 5-0. This new team in the travel soccer league played hard and dominated from the start. The day's first goal was scored by Kate Taylor after receiving a great pass from Kristen Sockett. Gaby Vessa, Hilary Gallo and Alexandra Parasco kept the pressure on the goalie by controlling the ball for most of the period. In the second period Michelle Lawrence, Sanya Kennedy and Taylor Watson continued the pressure on the defense and goalie. The second goal was scored by Anna Macedo followed quickly by a goal on a low hard kick by Maggie Breslin. Mary Alaina Jeffrey held her ground in the middle of the field allowing only one ball to get by her. In the third quarter Grace Golden took over with her lightning charges up the field. Lauren Peyser, usually a standout on defense, scored her first goal of the season. In the fourth quarter, Mackenzie Burch and Anjali Vora took over the heavy duty foot work. Special mention goes to Dana Matesich who controlled the tempo of the game and made several great passes from the sweeper position. Nicole Cogan finished the scoring by fighting for the ball in front of the net and then following up a rebound with a blast into the net.
The Stingrays demonstrate great team work, enthusiasm and excellent sportsmanship in each game. The girls are having a great time and their fans love watching and cheering for them.

Cobos stopped rushes as game began passing to the Z man who, like Cobos, was undaunted by size and pressure Merrick exhibited from the first moment of the game. The Z had an amazing play as he stopped the ball while Merrick was bringing it downfield, turned the direction and passed before Merrick even realized what happened. Callelini combined his powerful kicking with strong defense and saved the ball a number of times. None of these Devils seem to realize that every time they stop a rush and pass he ball to another Devil they have thwarted potential goals for their opponents. What seems like a small thing to them actually is invaluable to victory of each game. Michael Snee exhibited outstanding defense stopping time and time again passing to Diaz who maneuvers the ball around opponents as if they were standing still. Merrick was relentless and never let up on the pressure. Vanderberg, as usual, was too powerful for the opponents and when they met him their play was over; stopping their rush as he kicked the ball half way down field. The Great Goalie Goldstein exhibited for fans, once again, his acute sense of timing and accurate reflexes. As Merrick's ball is about to land, no Devils in sight, only an opponent poised and ready to kick into goal, should he grab the ball¬no too much time to bend over and reach out he decided to kick just as Merrick's toe was bout to engage the ball! You had to see this save to appreciate the thought, timing and skill involved.
To watch Williams run with lightening speed deftly maneuvering the ball is beauty in motion. His skill and speed are an amazing combination. Madison was all over the field this game playing strong defense and offense. Alex Snee never let up stealing, passing, saving throughout the game. Morrissey continued to be there when needed playing skillfully offense and defense. Izzo amazed fans with his usual relentless offensive plays. Fast and furious he is magic on the field. Denihan was a big problem for Merrick as he stopped their plays throughout the game. Heenan continued to bring the ball to goal around, behind, in front of, past any number of opponents as if they were not even there. When Heenan has the ball he is alone on the field even with Merrick all around him!
A beautiful day for a beautiful game!
Manhasset fifth grade girls CYO soccer team, the Warthogs, won on the road this past weekend, beating St. Aidan's of Williston Park by a score of 3 to 1. As her dad was working the flag, as well as the opposing team's crowd, Amy Tenet's tenacious play helped ensure the Warthogs' fifth victory of the season with a rocket shot past St. Aidan's goal keeper to start the game off appropriately. Shortly after the rocket blast, Brittany "Dynamite" Loschiavo put a left foot mid-air scud missile goal in the upper left-hand corner, making the score 2-0. The final goal of the Warthogs' offense was scored by Alicia Hannan, which put the Manhasset team up 3-0 at the end of the first half. Grace Golden also played a super game. Almost scoring several times, she played fearlessly against the girls of St. Aidan's. Lindsey Ready, Maggie Breslin and Kristina Duffy tripped the light fantastic by playing a sensational game in which they worked the ball up the field. As always, the Warthog win was a direct connect to the stellar defensive play on behalf of the iron wall of Katherine Fink, Lauren Peyser, Megan Cronin, Jessica Millard, Kara Manoogian and, of course, with the help of standout goalie Sarah Pegno. The exciting moment came after a quick second half goal from St. Aidan's, when the St. Aidan's squad walked out with a penalty kick which could have narrowed the margin and potentially dampened the Warthogs' winning streak. However, a quick goal change from Megan Cronin prevented the penalty kick goal and allowed the Warthogs to earn their fifth victory of the season, making their record 5-0.
The fourth grade boys Manhasset United Soccer Club got "W" this past Sunday beating Our Lady of Lourdes from Malverne 2-1.
Minutes after this exciting game got started the United found themselves down 1-0, but tireless play on both sides of the field yielded many opportunities.
The United fullbacks John Rapiel, Alex Egan and Matt Wolfe tightened up after the early goal and played "shutout ball" in front of goalkeeper Kris Iordanou. Wings Geoffrey Horowitz, Anthony De Dousis and Jimmy Wenk created many chances in front of the Malverne keeper who played tremendously for the visiting team.
With dominating play from halfbacks Chris DeBerardino, Stephen Colalillo, Daniel Frost and Mark Wilkerson the fans were treated with standout effort. All parents truly got many opportunities to appreciate the improvement of this talented team.
Outstanding efforts were received from Fritz Schoenhut, who netted the tying goal, Karl Hueglin, Jeremy Kreitman and Phil Kalargiros. These players all displayed tremendous stamina and speed that kept Malverne on their heels most of the game.
With 1:30 left in the game, the United was awarded a penalty kick as a Malverne player had committed a "hand ball foul in the box." The United chose Scott Herdemian to take the kick. Scott did not disappoint his teammates as the United closed out the victory.
