On behalf of the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce, I would like to again thank the many people and organizations that made the first Manhasset Street Fair a tremendous success. We could not have accomplished this without all of the cooperation and the financial support of the sponsors, merchants, Manhasset Park District, Town of North Hempstead, Manhasset Lakeville Fire Department, Nassau County Police, American Legion, volunteers and youth councils and the community at large. This town is to be commended for the way they rally around a cause.

We performed a small miracle by putting this together without an advance budget and with only four months to plan and execute it. I must give credit to talented Norman Nemec whose inspiration caused our perspiration.

As to whether this will become an annual event, the possibility is there if anyone from the community is interested in taking our lead and continuing it. The Manhasset residents loved it.

The plaques that were awarded by an independent judging committee were "Best Building Facade" to Martina Dudgeon for #2 Park Avenue, "Best Window Display" to Angier Chocolates, "Best Store Signage" to Mustard Seed and "Best Fair Participant" to The Americana at Manhasset for the horse drawn carriages. You can see these plaques by visiting these stores.

The Manhasset Chamber of Commerce has more events planned until the end of the year. We are planning a gala Man/Woman of the Year Cocktail Party on Nov. 1, to which you are all invited. Call 627-1098 for details. The funds collected from this event help defray the chamber's expenditures for the holiday wreaths along Plandome Road and Northern Boulevard. We also plan to plant bulbs along Plandome Road in front of the LIRR fence on Nov. 7, and we sponsor the annual poster contest for the annual Tree Lighting at the Gazebo on Dec. 4. Please join us for any or all of these events.

Again, our many thanks to all who have helped make this a very successful year.

Betsy Chesebrough

President

Manhasset Chamber of Commerce
