The Manhasset Chamber of Commerce holds its long planned business district centennial and street fair this Saturday, Oct. 3. It marks the centennial of the business district because it was 100 years ago that the Long Island Rail Road built its trestle over the end of Manhasset Bay and enabled trains to run to Manhasset, Plandome and Port Washington. Members of the Chamber of Commerce, under the able and energetic direction of its president. Betsy Chesebrough, have been working for months to make a success of this event. The Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department, the Manhasset Public Schools and the Town of North Hempstead will be taking part in the big day and we hope that our readers will join in the fun. This is not an "Arts and Crafts Fair," with out-of-town vendors of little interest to local residents. This is strictly home grown and planned to enable our Plandome Road merchants to showcase their wares, to remind you of what's available here in Manhasset. It's a first for our Chamber of Commerce, which has take on new life in the past few years. With a little help from the weatherman, who has been marvelously cooperative of late in our area, it should be a great day. Don't miss it!
