  • NEWS: Local Legislators Meet the League

    Nassau County Legislators Barbara Johnson and Lisanne Altmann took part is a panel discussion sponsored by the Port Washington-Manhasset League of Women Voters at the Port Washington Public Library on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Anne Stokvis, former president of the Nassau County League of Women Voters as well as of the local League, served as moderator. FULL STORY

  • NEWS: Manhasset Bay Beach Clean Up A Success

    The shoreline cleanup on Sept. 19 was a terrific success. This event was part of the Center for Marine Conservation's international cleanup. The American Littoral Society coordinates all sites in New York State. Lyman Langdon Audubon Society again sponsored the volunteers at Manorhaven Park and Sheets Creek North. This year saw a much more extensive effort on Manhasset Bay, due to the participation of the Manhasset Bay Protection Committee and the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce in sponsoring additional sites cleaned by civic associations and marinas. The new cleanup areas were coordinated by Rosemary Konatich of Assemblyman Tom DiNapoli's office and included Baxter Estates beach, Prospect Avenue, Bayview Colony, Port Washington Estates, Secore Drive, Toms Point and Kensington beach in Great Neck. Fifty volunteers cleaned over a half-mile of beach, removing 1,000 pounds of debris. FULL STORY

  • NEWS: Michael Corti and Tom Wolinski Awarded Eagle Scout Rank

    Michael Corti, 17, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Corti of Munsey Park. He has recently entered his senior year at Manhasset High School, where he is an honor student, a member of the National Honor Society, and was named AP scholar by the Educational Testing Service. Mike is an accomplished musician, playing the trumpet, and was recently selected to be a member of the All State Symphonic Band. He also participated in All County band and All County orchestra. In addition, he is a member of the marching band, jazz band, symphonic band, brass choir and theatre pit orchestra at Manhasset High School. He participated in the Berkley School of Music Jazz Festival and received the first place Best Soloist Award. He is a member of the Port Washington summer band. Because of his musical abilities, Michael was elected to the Tri-M Music Honor Society at Manhasset High School. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Warthogs Roll With the Punches

    The Manhasset Warthogs girls fifth grade CYO soccer club went on a scoring spree this past weekend with back-to-back wins Saturday and Sunday versus Long Beach and Our Lady of Lourdes (Malverne) respectively. Both wins were part of a strong start of the season, bringing their record to 3-0. FULL STORY

    This year's dates for the Cigna Knickerbocker Cup were Sept. 23-27. The venue was New York Harbor with the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island in plain sight encouraging thoughts of ancestors who had courageously come to our shores. The sights of the city were breathtaking. FULL STORY
